About U12
(AKA Devo)
U12 Athletes participate in activities that lead to successful skiing and racing as the winter approaches. We will hike to the summits of mountains, roller ski, mountain bike, and Nordic bound to build ski-specific strength. Once the snow falls, training sessions switch to on-snow workouts designed to maximize each athlete’s potential. Coaches provide race day waxing and pre-race advice to the athlete to help them to perform at the highest level. We’ll have the opportunity to train with other regional ski clubs and build friendships and good-natured rivalries with fellow skiers. Experienced coaches educate the athletes in physiology relevant to skiing, give technique instruction for efficient movement on snow, and help athletes achieve their personal skiing goals.
-
Choose from Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays in the off-season: U12s who sign up for year-round programming can participate in their choice of two sessions per week, with occasional opportunities to do three sessions per week.
-
Winter sessions are on Wednesdays and Saturdays (plus some Sunday race options).
-
Camp Options: U12s and U14s are invited to sign up for Coast Camp in July and June Lake/Eastside Camp in August. Signups will be available closer to camp dates. Additional coaching fee for those who are not signed up for year-round programs.
-
All new rollerskiers will have the opportunity to learn rollerskiing safety in the parking lot before heading out on the bike paths.
NEW THIS YEAR: U12 Recreational Focus! With the diverse nature of this age group, we’ve decided to add a group that is not so interested in racing quite yet for the 2024-25 season. All the same skill building and fun, but not as many interval sets and race efforts. If your child is hesitant about racing or needs one more year of skiing with a slightly slower group, this is the place for you. See the “recreational oriented” option at check out.
ALPINE PROGRAM ATHLETES WELCOME! Come get some dryland training in a fun and challenging atmosphere. We have summer-only options to keep you fit and ready for ski season! The training program will skew toward Nordic skills, but the skills and fitness will transfer over nicely to downhill skills too.
We even have a skimeister add-on option in the winter for kids to do both alpine and Nordic. Sign up for the appropriate NORDIC age group (1 day/week option) and choose “Skimeister add-on” for two alpine and two Nordic sessions per week.
Year-Round, Summer, and Fall Registrations open during the month of May
Winter program registrations open September-October.

Our mission as a non-profit training facility is to keep costs affordable for our athletes. In 2018, we celebrated our 90th year of winter sports excellence. We’ve been raising champions at Auburn Ski Club since 1928!
ASC Training Center hosts four of the major Far West Nordic qualifying races each season on the team’s home trails: Tahoe Mtn. Sports Holiday Sprints, Paco’s Fun Freestyle, Snowshoe Thompson Classic, and the President’s Cup Freestyle, as well as several major Biathlon competitions. Our 25+ km trail system features FIS-homologated 5km, 2.5km, and 1.2km courses.
As the top training and racing venue in the western U.S., we have hosted the XC Junior Nationals four times, the USSA Supertour twice, the NCAA Nationals, and the US Biathlon Nationals. Our location on Donner Summit also means our teams are the first ones on the snow at the beginning of the season and the last ones off in the spring!
